Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Gupta is the CEO of Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), an initiative by the Government of Karnataka (GoK). He is working towards the mission of ensuring Karnataka contributes the largest share—USD 300 billion—towards the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of a USD 1 trillion digital economy for the country.
Mr. Gupta brings with him over 27 years of experience as an administrator, business leader, entrepreneur, mentor, and a key facilitator of India’s IT growth. He plays an instrumental role in advancing Karnataka’s goal of accelerating growth and investments in the digital economy, with a focus on Global Capability Centres (GCCs), IT/ITES, Innovation & Startups, ESDM (Electronic System Design and Manufacturing), Beyond Bengaluru, and Talent Accelerator initiatives.
A topper of the Indian Statistical Service (ISS) 1998 batch, he has served in several prestigious Government of India departments such as the Ministry of Programme Implementation and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. He has also held leadership roles across South Asia in companies like Accenture (as Managing Director), Microsoft (as Country General Manager), and IBM. Additionally, he served as MD & CEO of Lahari, Mysuru ESDM Cluster, promoted by the Government of India.
Throughout his career, he has led several transformational projects, including the establishment of the SSS cadre, implementation of national health programs (NRHM & RCH Phase II), policy think tank NHSRC, and the integration of new technologies in education, social development, and cybersecurity.
Mr. Gupta holds an MBA, MPhil, and is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. He has received numerous awards and was also conferred an Honorary Doctorate by a US university. He currently serves on various boards and councils as a panel advisor and governing council member in both government and private sector organizations.
